Special Counsel

Marie is Special Counsel at Smith and Partners, advising on relationship property and property sharing issues. She also supports commercial clients with Anti-Money Laundering and competition law matters, offering clear, timely advice tailored to each client’s needs.

Marie began her legal career as a family lawyer at Smith and Partners in 2006 and returned in 2017 after gaining experience in construction and competition litigation. She leads the firm’s AML Compliance Programme and contributes to legal education as an adjunct instructor at the College of Law, including as their Family Law subject matter expert.

Marie also serves on professional standards committees with the Real Estate Authority and the NZ Law Society.

Outside of work, she sings 90s rock in a choir, has performed with NZ Opera, and enjoys planning family travel adventures.
